Crows

You won’t go far today
without snowshoes.
It’s a day to walk noisily.
The cleats screech against ice—
two feet of snow encrusted
with two inches of ice.
No matter.
It’s too cold for anyone but the crows anyway.
So join them, be raucous,
be still and
watch them soar—
and even then, cry out to be heard.
